Android Tablet, Wrong Location, when using Phone Hotspot

Hi!
This issue is driving me batty.
My phone is an HTC Inspire with Android 2.3.3 and I have an ASUS Transformer TF101 tablet with Android 3.2.1.
I travel a great deal for my job, so ever since I got the tablet, I

Though I'm not an expert, I do know that through tethering you are simply getting an internet connection from your phone (sharing it's connection). The phone isn't sharing its data with the tablet, just the connection. So, the issue is related to the tablet's functions.

Does the tablet have GPS of it's own? If so, make sure it is turned on. Your location is determined by it's GPS, not the phone's. Maybe the tablets GPS was accidentally turned off?

Beyond that, I'll have to defer to others who are more knowledgeable. Let us know if this helped, or if there's further issues.

Something else you might want to try is doing a PRL update on your phone. Here's a little bit of info on it.

The PRL is usually sent as an over-the-air update when needed, but often — especially if you travel a lot — it's necessary to manually update it. It's pretty easy to do:

Sprint: dial ##873283#
Telus: dial *22803
Metro PCS, US Cellular, Verizon (3G phones only): dial *228
Android phones also have an option to update the PRL in most CDMA phones, you'll find that in the settings pages. If you have a CDMA/LTE phone on Verizon or Metro PCS, your PRL will auto-update as needed, so don't fool with it. Also it's not a good idea to update your PRL while you're roaming on another carrier.

The tablet's GPS is on. I also have GPS Status, which shows me the satellites that the GPS is seeing. Even though GPS Status shows several satellites and strong signal, the tablet still defaults to the Rapid City location, whenever I'm connected to my phone's hotspot to share my data connection with the tablet.
As soon as I find an alternative Internet connection for the tablet, the location on the tablet is correct again.

I have an AT&T phone. How do I update the PRL for it? <Googling PRL now> I have no idea what that is.

Thanks for the responses! :)

@ Zuben
You know what? I think you may have hit on what was causing it. My mom lives in Rapid City and she uses a Verizon MiFi hotspot device to to get Internet in her home. I connected the tablet to it, while I was there. Maybe something about it being the same sort of hotspot was confusing the tablet. I've removed the Verizon MiFi from the tablet's WiFi networks.
I am connected to my phone's hotspot now and so far, it has not changed the weather widgets to "Rapid City" and Google Maps is going right to my current location, so hopefully that fixed it.
If so, thank you so much!
If not, I'll report back here and ask for further help. :)

Thanks everybody, for your responses.
Best regards, Barbara

It happened again...right back to Rapid City, even though there was no long a MiFi network in my saved networks or any network anywhere near Rapid City.
I don't know how it keeps reverting to the Rapid City location now.
The HTC rep for my phone suggested clearing my phone's hotspot cache, but I've been all through the hotspot settings and can't find a cache to clear. I had already deleted the hotspot and recreated it. That didn't help.

What ended up being a *sort of* fix is that I disabled the tablet's ability to use WiFi to determine it's location, so that it can only use the GPS. I guess that will work, as long as I'm in a place where it can have clear access to the satellites. If I'm inside a building, I expect it won't work that great.

Anymore help y'all can give me would be much appreciated. :)
Thanks again!

On my Galaxy Player 5 I found the GPS cache in Settings, under Application Management. It's the same place where you'd go to uninstall an app, but it also allows you to delete the cache there.

You might try looking there.

@Sideman: Thanks for the reply, but I'd cleared GPS cache several times when trying to solve this issue on my own, before writing for help here. It is the hotspot on my HTC Inspire phone that I can't find a cache for. This problem only happens when I'm using my phone's data plan, via its hotspot function, with my tablet. I'm probably going to have to call HTC to seek a resolution. Thanks again! :)
