Android tablets in the classroom: wonderful experience!

I'm a high school teacher and I recently bought seven Denver tablets to use in my classes.

I'm happy to report that the investment paid off.

The tablets worked beautifully, the kids loved them and the lesson was wonderful.

I work with tough teenagers from the local slums, so I started with something simple: they had to make memes using 70 pictures from the Gallery and then Fast Notepad.

For a teacher, the possibilities provided by these devices are endless!

Any tips on educational apps and/or classroom activities using Android tablets are, as always, more than welcome.

Thanks in advance, guys!

Off the top of my head I have nothing in mind other than to say I admire what you are doing and glad to see an educator going outside the teaching box to try and engage kids at a higher level.

If I can make a suggestion in the event you feel the need to lock down the tablets to a given set of apps to avoid possible distractions, there are many "kiosk" apps available on the market that allow you to define what apps are accessible for the given lesson plan if you need to narrow them all down.

If you have all the tablets using the same google account you will only need to buy the app once and then be able to install it on all of them.

You bought 7 tablets for the kids on a teacher's salary?

Talk about being dedicated to what you do. :)

Wow that's wonderful! I had always been under the impression that as far as TABLETS go ios was better, that is, since funlylogic explained it so to me... I don't have any teaching apps for you, maybe some language learning ones and programming language ones (human spoken and computer based) so I'm not too terribly helpful there.. but its great to hear that android tablets other than the nexus line is doing something valuable haha

Thanks guys.

My next step is getting a 4G router. Going to the local shopping centre everytime I need to download apps for these babies is not convenient at all.

Kudos to your commitment.I can't think off-hand what more things you can do with the tablets but this may be the next stage and of use to you for 40 dollars a piece,
