Android takes Email Addresses from Facebook - Even if they aren't being shared.

I noticed something today that I have Googled and couldn't find anything similar. So I decided to create an account.

On my Android 4.3 phone. If I go to create a new email and then Add a contact, it lists a lot of email addresses\contacts I didn't at first recognise. It turns out that it was taking them from Facebook (the contact picture was the same as the individual's Facebook page)

I then noticed that a lot of these addresses weren't actually being shared by the person on Facebook. I've even asked a couple of friends to check and the email address that shows, is the email address they sign into Facebook with but it's not shared with anyone on Facebook.

Is this the same for other people?

No, all I have is their "@facebook" email. Though, I've long thought that FB was way too lax in keeping our privacy private. It's probably why they recently bought WhatApp, they want our phone numbers as well.

I personally use a "fake" email with all my social sites (FB, Twitter, Message boards, etc). I have access to the email from my computer only so that I can check emails. In other words, I use it only as a log in; so it's not attached to my phone number, my google calendar, etc.

I loathe FB. I only have it because I have friends from all over the world which I'd like to stay in touch with.

FB is doing away with the @facebook emails and, in doing so, is going to use whatever email is associated with the account. So yeah, now anyone has access to your email address.
I'm guessing that's what happening here.

Well, that makes using a "fake" email a smart idea. Altho, I will add that every person on my FB is an actual friend and I don't hit the "like" button except on individual comments.
