Having seen many people evangelise about both the iphone and Android (myself probably included for the latter), I found it quite amusing the other day when one of my colleagues who has proudly owned iphones for some time now told me that with the update to OS 4.0, his iphone 3GS was now "an Android phone". Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to explain why his new phone was not an Android phone (apart from simply the fact that it is running OS 4.0 and not Android), but I do think it's an interesting idea (and moment). Are the people who have bought into Apple's (admittedly slick, and very easy to use, while crippling choice) closed system realising that while it may look stunning and superficially be user friendly, it also tells you how to use your phone (you can't do it that way, we want it like this; no porn for you, it's rude and wrong), something which Android tends to avoid?
I will be interested to see how things change over the next few months, in terms of how Google respond to OS 4.0, but also if there is any backlash over Apple's restictive ways as people see there is a viable alternative in either Android or WebOS. Also, and I may be wrong about this, but I seem to recall hearing that one of the things that meant that VHS beat Betamax to be the standard for video recorders was, porn (Sony wouldn't allow its distribution on Betamax). Will this have an impact on Apple and Google? Personally, I'm not bothered either way, but looking at some of the most popular items on Phandroid's store (sorry, I've forgotten the name), quite a few of them featured scantily clad young ladies; so it seems that others may have an opinion.
