I'm new to the Android world.
I'm looking into home automation but I don't want to buy a prepackaged, turn key system. I have a vision for a home-grown system that I can expand on over the years. Here's a high level description.
Version 1:
Here's my question.
We have a home theater room in the basement. A tablet on the wall isn't going to get our attention if we're watching a movie with the volume cranked up. So I'm exploring the idea of using Android TV to run all of our other Home-Automation apps right on the TV.
If the kids are watching a movie and I call them on the intercom, I'd like it to come up on the TV so they can't miss it. If someone rings the doorbell I'd like the camera feed to show on the TV. Security system, VOIP calls, and so on.
Does any of this sound possible and realistic?
Any feedback is appreciated.

Version 1:
- Amazon Fires, or other inexpensive tablet, permanently mounted to the wall in each room.
- Speakers hardwired in each room via aux port and small in-wall amp. <http://a.co/hnjCPLG>
- Tablets have access to music library on my NAS.
- Intercom app, always running for easy communication with the kids around the house. Comms will come through the speakers at any time.
- Integration to smart door locks, garage door, doorbell with camera, security system, VOIP Telephone, etc.
