Help Android TV box... Anewish AE254

RC90RR

Newbie
I recently purchased an Nvidia Shield so I had to kick my trusty AE254 to the side. It had a lot to do with the fact that I couldn't make the box play nice with the FUBOTV app.

The FUBOTV app installed ok on the AE254 but was as user unfriendly as anybody can think of. Couldn't use it with the remote control, I would have to fiddle with the mini keyboard and mouse to get the menu to come up, then when it finally did, it would take ages to get to the next screen and then, when I would start a sport match, the stream would pause for a fraction of a second every so often so imagine sitting down through a 90 minute soccer game with the game pausing a few fractions of a second every 20 secs or so... enter the Nvidia shield and all my problems went away.

Now, the only thing I can think off is that the AE254 is still using OS 6.0.1 and the Shield is at 8.0.

Bottom line is I know the box is rooted and I would love to try to upgrade the OS to 7 or 8 ... is this even possible?

I googled this and there is a ton of info but also tons and tons of different firmware and the info is vague at best for someone that has no idea of what he is doing. I rather not brick my box because I can always give to someone that can still utilize it.

Thanks

The fubotv app is designed to work on phones and tablets, contact the developer regarding it working correctly with a box. Have you checked the manufacturer website for firmware updates?

According to Anewish (manufacturers of the AE254), there is no way to update the firmware of the box. I take it this is because they want to sell you their new box but it could also be due to some limitation of the hardware of the box, I don't know enough about them.

The fuboTV app works like a dream on my Shield but the shield is running the Oreo version of Android whereas the box is on Marshmallow. According to the little I read about the shield, Nvidia will keep up with the android OS updates but who knows.

All I know is that I would love to know what firmware the AE254 is on to check whether I can attempt to upgrade it to at least 8.

Thanks for responding though.
