Help android tv box locked down

Hey guys,

total newbie here so take it easy on me.

i have an ip tv subscription from Europe and bought a box from them. Its running android but its locked down.

my settings section consists of date/time, network, check for updates, Even the about section doesn't state whether its 6.01 or 7.1.1.

Has an amlogic S905x processor.

Basically, it came loaded with the iptv app which automatically loads on power up. It also has kodi installed so i was able to poke around there are bit and thru an apk installer i was able to get chrome installed. I tried to get the google play service installed but it just keeps telling me i have to update it.

I tried browsing in the google play store and install anything. It says the app will be installed soon. I'm guessing this is because the play service isn't running.

Are there any options for me here? I don't even know where to start. What would i like? an accessible OS. So just like the android boxes you buy off amazon with say kodi installed.. i have the home page, i can do updates, etc.

With this one.. it took forever to try and update kodi. I finally found an thru a kodi build wizard an option to update kodi.

Still, don't like the crippled box.

i'm sure i'm not providing enough info here.. so let me know guys what you need and i'll see if i can even access the info. Any help would be much appreciated.

It was likely designed to be securely locked("crippled") by the IPTV provider, and so you very probably can't do anything else with the thing other than subscribe to their service, and that's it. Who supplies your IPTV service and this particular device? I know China Telecom supplies an IPTV service, and the box they supply(rent) to subscribers is a securely locked-down and customized Android based device.

There's plenty of cheap Android boxes available though of variable quality and types, from Amazon, etc. Can't recommended you any particular one though, as it's not something I have.
