Help Android Update Leeches Battery

natrinity

Lurker
So, last year I got myself a new phone, namely the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact and I love it to death. I mostly liked the many battery saving features, like STAMINA which made it last for days without charging.

However, since the latest Android Lollipop update, I've begun to notice some rather annoying changes to the battery lifetime. It seems as though, regardless of the STAMINA feature being on - the battery just drops within hours, even if it's not used.

I charged it just this night to 100, kept STAMINA on and after just 15 mins of usage, it went down to 83% and continued down to 0% when I slept.

Another issue is that I cannot turn it on while it charges, it just keeps giving me the battery charging screen and turns off. Before the update, I could turn it on even while it charges.

Is anyone having the same issues? Or am I just unlucky?

All manner of trouble is possible after an update due to the operating system cache being messed up.

I've found instructions on how to get to the Z3 Compact recovery - you're going to look for an option to clear cache, if it's there.

From the home screen, tap "Apps"Go to "Settings" and swipe to "Personal"Tap "Back up & reset"Clear the "Automatic restore" check box and swipe to "Personal Data"Tap "Factory data reset" > "Reset phone"In case your device is lock screen protected, enter the password, patter or PIN and tap "Continue"Tap "Erase everything" to confirm
Master Resetting via Hardware Keys (Recovery Menu):

NOTE: In case your smartphone prevents you from applying the master reset via the Settings menu, you can apply the factory reset by accessing the recovery menu through a combination of hardware keys. To do so:

Turn off the Z3 CompactPress and hold the "Volume Up" and "Power" buttons simultaneously

Once the phone vibrates three times (it should take about 10 seconds) release the buttonsPress and hold the "Power" and "Volume down" buttons

At the Sony splash screen, release the "Power" button but continue pressing "Volume Down"Release the volume key when the "System Recovery" screen appears

Use the volume buttons to navigate the menu and highlight the clear or wipe cache option if there.

Press "Power" to select the highlighted option

Reboot when done.

If that doesn't work you're going to want to backup with Helium Backup, factory data reset, and restore.

Hold your horses, so there's no way around this other than to reset it? That sounds like a load of trouble just for some battery problems...

What horses? :D

Does your phone have the option to clear cache or not?

If it does, that's not a reset - you lose nothing but a tangled cache.

If it does require a factory data reset then you have more than battery problems - you have caches so tangled that you're already suffering bugs - some you may just be dismissing or if not, you haven't seen them - but you will. The battery will be just the beginning. Wait until your keyboard changes languages on its own, or you tap app A and app B launches - I've had it happen. The effects go from nuisance to extreme.

Because that's what happens with multiple tangled up caches.

As for too much trouble - that's your call, your phone, and your business.

I've had phones in my family dropped, drowned, stolen, left behind at the mall, and zapped during lightning while on the charger - and replacing everything was no big deal - done in short order - because I have a working backup strategy for everyone.

So I don't mind handing out factory data reset advice because for me, backing up, resetting, and restoring isn't a big hoo ha, and I don't have all my eggs in one basket.

I understand that most people don't roll that way and if you don't want to, you don't want to, no big deal, it's your phone.

By the way - you'll probably hate rooting but just for the sake of giving you all of your choices - with root you can clear all caches and lose nothing. I have no clue why they don't make that an option for everyone because it's danged convenient, but they just don't.

Plus with root you get the opportunity for more backup convenience. A lot of rooters change roms (for all effects and purposes, a phone replacement) like they're changing their socks - change rom, get a cup of coffee, restore everything while drinking a cup of coffee, and bang - done.

Root absolutely isn't for everyone but it's another choice for you so there it is.

Hope this helps. :)
