If i upgrade my sony xperia to android 4 will i lose all my photos on the internal memory

I wouldn't have thought so, but I would back them up to a computer first to be safe.
In fact I'd actually recommend that you back up everything before an update anyway. Most of the time it just works fine, but occasionally there can be odd performance problems after an update, in which case if you are not rooted (which I assume you are not) you would probably have to do a factory reset to fix them. So it's best to be prepared and have everything backed up already, just in case you are one of the unlucky few.
