Android Visual Voicemail?

I'm coming from an iPhone on AT&T with Visual Voicemail to Verizon. I understand that I have to pay extra for that feature.

What's the best way to get this kind of functionality for free?

Google Voice.
It's great for visual voicemail (pretty funny translations sometimes!) and free texting.
Since you are coming from ATT to Verizon you can port your current number to GV and get a new number from Verizon, that way you don't have to give a separate number for texting.

Yes, you can use GV for just voicemail. Get a number, even if you don't think you will use it...better to have it than not.
