Android wifi hotspot AT&T

So I have AT&T and I wanna get an android phone verryy soon. I know that in android 2.2 u got the mobile hotspot feature. I know that it cost an absurd 20 a month to activate wireless tethering the iPhone 4 in AT&T... Does it cost extra for this mobile hotspot feature in at&t android phones?

I believe hot spot is disable by default and is not a feature you can enable through At&t, however if you do some homework and learn how to root and flash roms then you can enable that feature and get around the fee. However, it uses data very quickly so its not a great feature to have if you have a limited plan.

edit: I am wrong, having looked at available feautures it can be enabled, but at the cost of $60, the 2gb is total usage of data on your phone and through tethering.

Is that a one time fee? Also when you say it uses up data quickly, does that mean more data per page for computers than mobiles?

Webpages for mobiles are generally more compressed and usually lack much of the content found on a desktop. So yes, if you connnect your laptop and surf the web you are going to on average use more data going to the same websites you might go to on your phone. The charge is a reaccuring monthly fee. In essence you are are paying $35 a month to be able to tether.

It is indeed, however should you get a phone, and feel brave, rooting and flashing a rom will fix the problem as most roms have re-enabled the feature. It have it on my phone (captivate) and it works wonderfully. But, you still have to be careful with the usage because 2gb goes quickly.
