AndroidTV, 5 to 6 upgrade?

G'day,

I have an AndroidTV Q-box that came with 5.1.1 installed. I want to upgrade to 6.0.1. My question is when I install the new firmware will it overwrite/destroy what programs are installed already --> kodi 17, Apps and so forth?

I have already download the correct zip file and ready to proceed, knowing full well that I could brick the device.

If it is an actual update file it should not delete anything.
