Annoying search mode when entering phone number

Does anyone know how to turn this "feature" off? WHen I start typing a number to call, the dialer immediatly moves me to a name that matches and the keypad goes away. It wouldn't be so bad if I could continue to enter the number, but I have to re-click down into the number shown to finish entering.

I either want to turn this off, or just load a great dialer app.

Not sure why that is happening to you. When I type a number in the stock dialer it works like its suppose to. You could try go dialer, I used it for a long time and it works great.
