Annoying video remote popup

PeteW1959

This has suddenly started this morning. Whenever I activate my phone screen, I get a popup at the bottom that looks like a video remote control, with the message 'Samsung TV on BTHub5-XXXXX'. I don't have a Samsung TV, nor a BTHub (mine is a Netgear on EE). For that matter I don't have any smart TV at all.

If I open the app, it asks for my TV service provider, and there don't seem to be any configuration options to turn it off.

What is it, and how do I get rid of it?

Have a look at your tools and check if you have a peel remote app installed. You will probably find that the app cannot be uninstalled. However, you should be able to disable it. Press the Disable button.

I have the same problem and this bloody app appears everytime it detects a smart TV. I did not uninstall it because I have a TV too and sometimes it is useful (I don't need to have a remote control nearby :))

But in fact, it is really annoying that this app blocks out other apps including messages (!!!)

Looks like there are a lot of upset users like us: https://www.androidpolice.com/2017/03/29/peel-remote-app-upsets-users-ton-ads-lock-screen-overlays/
