Help Antivirus that doesn't run in the background.

I am looking for a antivirus that I can use to scan if I think I might have a virus, but otherwise will be unused. I do not want one that runs in the background like all the ones I have tried. Does anyone know of a virus scanner like this that actually works?

Don't even worry about it. You don't need antivirus on Android. Just be careful what you install and where you get the software. Install Common Sense and leave it running at all times. It's your best protection.

Why do they call it common sense if it is so rare? I'd like to have an app that can scan my system for viruses and malware, just to be on the safe side.

Get Malwarebytes.

Even if nothing can infect your system as a virus, you might get a bad something from somewhere.

Especially in an email attachment that you might download.

Better to know that you've done your best before passing on an infection to someone on a box where it could work.

Does this install with ads?
Do you know if this performs better than other antivirus apps? I have tried Avast. It looked like it used to take up a lot of memory when running on the background.

No idea how it compares to Avast, I only do manual scans when necessary. I trust it.

You could tell avast not to run in the background. There are a lot of settings, and you don't have to let it run real time or on execution scans just because those are the defaults. You can still let it scan apps on installation if you want.

The same is true with MalwareBytes, except its options are simpler. In either case you'd want to go through the options and turn off stuff you don't want.

I have Avast, but only as a more capable phone location/antitheft than Google's Android Device Manager. I don't need real time malware scanning.
