Any 3g off/on switches for 2.1 that actually work as designed?

I use a Samsung i5700 (Spica/Galaxy Portal/whatever it's called this week) and ideally I want to be able to toggle 3g off and on (for the sake of battery).

Problem is that every solution (Juice Defender, APNDroid etc) work perfectly for maybe an hour, but then 3g stops being able to connect, forcing me to reboot (at which point everything is fine until I toggle 3g off again as above).

Having read about this stuff, it seems to be a problem for many people, not just users of this particular phone.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I think those programs add characters to the APN to stop it working, ive got a hero and just use the stock HTC sense widgets so no problem for me. I havnt used them but try beautiful widgets (i think)

Download either BetterCut or Bar Control, and make a shortcut to your APN settings either in your homescreen or notification bar. Make a "fake" APN consisting of nonsense characters. When you need to turn off mobile data connection, go to your APN settings via the shortcut your created, and switch APN to the "fake" one.
