Any 4g less Evo owners feeling a little slighted yet?

I live in Michigan and I was Just curious as to if anyone other than myself who has paid for 4g service over half a year now is feeling a bit slighted that you are paying for a service that you have yet to be able to experience. I know that people are going to chime in with the Sprint says the $10 is for the "premium" features, but what does this mean for the people that actually "have 4g", that they are getting an extra feature for free while the rest of us sit back and envy them? Just curious as to whom shares my plight?

I can't find the words to subtly say it, so I'll just blurt it out - 4G is so over rated. I don't even use 4G 99.9% of the time. And even if I do, I seldom see any major difference between 3G and 4G, plus it's a major battery drain when turned on... Believe me, you're not missing much with the absence of 4G.

You must get good 3G speeds where you are. In Orl it was a HUGE difference. 3G is rly very slow the places I have been around FL. Granted 4G wasn't amazing either and you are right it drained battery hard. Problem is use it or not you are still paying that fee.

To the OP...I had the Evo for a bit and decided it was not worth it. Went to T-Mo for a bit and now I am back with an Optimus. I waited 2 yrs for Sprint to get a phone I thought was worth what I was paying.

As for the "rich data experience"...Honestly they should and imo need to rethink this. The Evo is not so hot. Even when it came out, its running snapdragon but iirc the first one. Now there are phones coming out on other carriers that put it to shame big time.

Even T-Mo imo has some better phones and much improved data speeds then Sprint. Three other carriers that seem to not being charging for 4G.

I think Sprint might have backed themselves into a corner where in order to come out with lower/mid range phones they need to slack on features and processor speed since they basically said. You get snapdragon you are paying us extra.

If it were me...and it was at one point, I would sell the Evo and grab an Optimus till Sprint either comes out with a competitive new phone or drops the $10 charge. Of coarse this is my personal preference...tbh I rly did not think the Evo was worth it. :)

We ALL knew that there were no guarantees or timetables for 4G when we bought our Evo's. But we did anyway. We all wanted the new hotness that is the Evo, and we told ourselves we'd get 4G "sometime soon". Sprint never made a promise to us. We believed "leaks" and rumor sites. So who's fault is that?

I wonder what you are going to say when sprint starts to charge everyone the 10 dollar fee? What will you do? Maybe get a lte phone and complain how slow the speeds are? Or maybe get a iphone and complain about how you cant make a phone call?

I didn't have consistent 4G until November '10. For the time I didn't, 3G was fine for me from Sprint. I did my homework and found that it was as good or better than the other carriers where I live and spend most of my time. That's what everyone should factor in when selecting a carrier. I would not have switched to Sprint if they didn't have at least solid 3G.

I understand people who are in areas with few carrier options and not even at EVDO speeds. But that's not Sprint or any other carrier's fault unless they are advertising that they offer it when they don't. If that's the case, contact your state Attorney General and request intervention on your part -certainly to the point of getting your money back.

All that said, I think Sprint's been pretty open about it's 4G coverage and expansion. Do I wish they were faster? Yes, but some of the delay is simply not being able to get code approval to move forward with expansion. Don't blame Sprint or other carriers for that - blame all the petty government officials and local codes that try to preserve "look and feel" or don't believe that anything that introduces even miniscule change or risk should be approved.

I used to live in OH and NC, and the options I had were significantly fewer and less sophisticated than options I have in the NY-NJ-PA area.

I hope people who are stuck in the dark ages do get relief. When I visit friends in parts of the US with limited coverage, it drives me crazy so I temporarily feel your pain.

Soon, there will be threads about how Evo owners being upset that the Evo doesn't work on LTE. And Sprint will get blamed.

What I hate is Sprint bragging about it for over a year and a half now and it's still just trickling out little by little. By the time I see it, my phone will be all worn out.

Sprint needs to put up or shut the f up.

Just read the announcement that Verizon LTE is available in my area as of yesterday. Just one more nail in the coffin. Is there an extra fee for 4g on Verizon like there is on Sprint?

Not sure about the cost of LTE, but it's not unlimited.

Sorry to hear you're not getting 4G. Even when I didn't have it, I didn't feel slighted though because my ATT coverage was terrible and the VZW cost has never been realistic.
