Any chance on getting the new version of Jelly Bean?

I'm referring to Jelly Bean 4.2.2 at the moment. I have the Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE phone and wondered if it was possible to upgrade it from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 or even upgrade it AT ALL.

Are you pretty much stuck with what you get when you get the phone with VM? If it's running 4.1.2 when you get it, that's the best you're gonna have? Let me know because as of now, this phone has the most up to date Android OS (through VM) and it's the only reason I bought it, but I would definitely like to update. They don't do OTA's for OS at VM, do they?

Thanks for any and all help!

It is pretty rare for Virgin Mobile to update the OS, other than maintenance updates. Part of the problem is that Virgin's phones, like the Galaxy Victory, are towards the end of their life cycle before Virgin starts selling the phone. As such, not only is Virgin not upgrading the phone but the manufacturer (Samsung) is no longer updating it, since it is EOL.

Your best bet in updating any Virgin Mobile phone is to root the phone and add a custom ROM. While I don't believe that 4.2.2 is available for the Victory yet, I do believe there are people working on a 4.2.2 ROM. For more information, check out (Virgin Mobile) Victory 4G LTE - All Things Root - Android Forums.

I don't have the phone yet (ordered it but haven't received it yet) but didn't the Victory release with 4.0x and already receive an update to 4.1x? I hear some phones on the shelves are still loaded with 4.0x ics and prompts for an over the air update to 4.1x jb once it is turned on for the first time.

There is word that Samsung works very hard on keeping it's phones updated. The Samsung Intercept also receive an OS update from 2.1x to 2.2x while it was on Virgin Mobile.

That being said, I believe it is very possible for Samsung to release another update for the Victory... that is if they want to. I believe the Sprint version is also on 4.1x. However, I also believe that since it just got 4.1x I think it is a long shot to get another update so soon. But this is all speculation.

And for those who think just because a phone is on Virgin Mobile it will be ignored and neglected, don't be so quick to this conclusion. If the same phone is still popular on Sprint and receives an update, it is more likely than not a similar update will hit Boost and Virgin versions of the phone in a reasonable timeframe.

Yep. Virgin doesn't determine whether a phone gets an update or not. It was different in the case for the Triumph because it was exclusive to Virgin Mobile and therefore there was less demand for an update.

I'm not even sure how an update is sent out and the process that takes place. We know it is the phone manufacturer that creates the update with a partnership with the carrier to send it out. After that I have no idea. I would assume that the carrier will have special requests in the new update, with certain preloaded apps (if any) or preloaded features exclusive to the carrier. So there is a partnership that takes place.

That much I can assume safely.

However, who is the first to jump in pushing for an update? There is a part of me that believes if a phone manufacturer wants to sell more handsets, they want their phone to have a later OS. So I guess it is the manufacturer who knocks on the door first in wanting one of their handsets to be updated.

And if there is at all some scenario where the carrier wants an update for one of their top selling phones, they still need to contact the manufacturer to create one. So all in all, I believe it is mostly the manufacturer whether they want to create an update.
