any decent free text messaging apps?

starting to get real sick of the shitty stock app taking forever to stop marking my sent messages as unread messages, not to mention it has general quirky problems on my phone, and the occasional random force close. are there any better FREE options out there i should give a try?
 
Handcent SMS and Go SMS, seem to be what most people use.

I use Handcent but i havnt triend Go SMS, part of that reason is because Handcent is pretty epic...
 
i use the go sms pro app to bad it wont show u the picture when some1 sends u one in the pop-up window like the iphone does but this is a great app i recommend this as well

I use Handcent. I have not used Go. I like Handcent customization options. You can create different signatures for each person you text.
 
Might try Go sms, the popups from Handcent lag a little and it really kills me.

Handcent is very customizable, but it is also very complicated. It seems like it started out basic and then it exploded. Because the way its setup stuff is just everywhere in the options and overall UI.

I think its just been slapped together as the devs kinda went along.

Its a great app and does its job extremely well, but it needs a redesign, which i should mention is supposed to be coming soon.
