Apps Any developer had the offer of a free phone?

I just saw a news story saying that Google will be giving free phones to certain developers. If you have an app with 5000+ installations, and a rating of 3.5 or above, then they'll offer you a free phone.

Google Handing Out Free Nexus Ones And Droids To Top Android Devs

I've not qualified for a free phone. :(
I have an app with 14,000+ installations, but the rating is only 2.9.

Up until now the bad reviews for my app hadn't bothered me. You get some people who go around being aggressively negative about everything, and it's best to ignore them. But now I'm thinking they might have just cost me a free phone.

Oh well, it would be greedy of me to have 2 Nexus Ones. :D
(Although I would have loved to get a Droid)

Anybody here had the email from google yet?

Mark,
I have a myTouch 3G and am wanting another phone for my wife. Do you like the Nexus One? Is it the best phone out there right now?

Thanks,
Rick

Hi Rick,

I'm very happy with my Nexus One.
But I can't really say if it's the best one out there right now. There are new models coming out all the time, and it's hard to keep up.

One of the deciding factors for me was that as it's the official Google phone, it'll get the fastest updates. And as a developer it's handy to have the "definitive" reference model.

But I quite like having a physical keyboard, so sometimes I wish I'd bought a Droid instead. With my old G1 I could type quickly while on the move. With the Nexus One I have to stop and give it all my attention, and do it away from other people so they don't hear me swearing. :-)

The phone does have a few faults, but it'll get better.
If you do decide to get a Nexus One for your wife, she'll end up with an excellent phone, so it's a pretty safe choice. But personal preference will determine if it's the best one.

Regards,

Mark
