I'm leaving weekend on a long trip. I'd really like to have some sort of video chat capability for the trip. My Droid-X has only one camera. My contract with Verizon is not up for a long time. I'm either going to pay the non-contract price to buy dual camera phone from Verizon or I'm going to pay Verizon a contract early break-up fee and go to another carrier (and sign a new contract elsewhere).
I believe that a non-contract phone at Verizaon will cost me about $200 - $250 more than the "contract price." Likewise, I believe that the Verizon contract early termination fee is $200 (or less, if proration applies), plus you end up paying for a month of service that you don't need or use -- I'd change my contract to drop data, drop SMS and switch to the cheapest voice plan possible before cutting the strings, so that will cost about the same.
If Verizon was going to release the HTC Thunderbolt by Friday, I'd probably buy it, then sell my Droid-X on Ebay.
Although not a phone, if the wifi-only Xoom were to be available by Friday, I'd buy one them instead of switching phones, but so far I can't determine when it is actually going to be available at any price anywhere.
