OK, today I spent lots of my time spinning my wheels and no clear answers to my query.
I asked Mr. Google and I asked one of the Apple Genius Bar wonks a simple question, and the answers were all over the place. Are there any IPad users here that can shed a little light?
My needs are simple: I want easy and generally effortless way to transfer of doc files to and from an IPad.
How do you transfer doc files to the IPad? Anyone here know for sure? I was told that you do so using ITunes; another couple of sources said it was difficult to tricky to impossible to transfer Word files/Text files to and from an IPad with ITunes. Apparently, when you connect the IPad to your computer, the ITunes software will add an IPad icon, but you can only transfer certain types of files to or from the IPad and DOC/DOCX files are not on the list.
I am very confused because Mr. Google agrees and disagrees with the Genius Bar folks that oddly enough, aggree and disagree with Mr. Google.
I was told you can't, I was told only DOCX files will transfer, not DOC files. I was told it must be done using the Apple IPad Dock and I was told the dock wont allow it by some bystander that apparently knew the answers the Genius Bar folks do not know. Or he was just as incorrect and the GB wonks.
I was told there is a port on the IPad Dock that accepts a USB drive but I find no evidence of a port on their dock. they have a version that accepts a memory card, however.
Then I was told you can use an SD card and the Apple Camera Connection Kit with the card slot, and later I was told only music, video and image files will transfer and nothing else.
I asked an Apple Store employee if he is incorrect and indeed, I can't transfer files, can I return the IPad and she said certainly; a manager said I can't return the unit if it will not do what they said it will do. That also seems rather odd thing to say; misrepresentation is always a legitimate reason to return a product that does not do what the sales wonks say it will do.
So dear gang of mine, WTF?
