I plan to get the Galaxy Note II tomorrow. To my understanding its uses the same physical home button. Im coming from a Galaxy Nexus that had on screen keys which I LOVED!!!

Any issues with hardware failure on the SIII?
Thanks!!

I've had my SGS III for only a month, but, in that time, the button has the exact same feel & look as the day I unboxed the phone.

I'm sure someone may pop-in to report a defective button, & we'd like to hear about their experience.

However, from what I've read/seen around the various ANDROID sites, etc..., I've yet to hear about any problems with the home button, not a single article, nada.

SAMSUNG hasn't sold 30 million + of these phones by mistake, it's a solid piece of hardware .You can be rest assured that your phone will be just as solid of a choice. If a problem arises, you're protected w/a minimum of a one year warranty, possibly longer, depending on where you reside.

that's great to hear!
My phone is my life and I need to it work. Point blank. Lol
The only issue I ever had with my current model, the galaxy nexus, was that my original device's charging port failed. The new one has been running strong with no issues. I hope to say my Note II will as well :)

The physical button is great. I'd have been put of by capacitive. The quality is certainly apparent

I've had it for several months, and have had absolutely no issues with the home button; it has worked flawlessly.

When you get it, see if the XDA devs have an AOKP ROM for it. With AOKP you can create your own buttons at the bottom of the screen and never use any of the stock buttons again. You lose a few millimeters of screen real estate, but to me having 4 or 5 virtual buttons with added long press functionality is worth it. I have mine set up like you see below. Menu, home, recent apps and a back button, which automatically turns into a close keyboard button when i am typing something.
Additionally, you can have the buttons stay on persistently, disappear based off Jelly Bean setting or go moot with only small dots visible when in apps. AOKP is an amazing ROM and sounds like it is something you would like.

P. S. I have had my S3 since release day and the home button is still perfect. The power on button on the side feels a tad jiggly though.

If I have physical buttons, the on screen ones are wasted space. No need for 2 of the same thing. I'd rather have the extra screen real estate.

seems ok to me. at first was a bit sticky.
I'm also using button savior root app for a soft
home key :-)

Mine is fine 3 months in although I'm not really a fan of it. I liked the idea coming from an iphone and thought android on screen buttons were a stupid idea. But I think because of my time with the iphone I know hardware buttons can fail and degrade so I try to protect it by using the back button most of the time. It would be nice to not have to worry and to just use it as intended.

I really like the capacitive buttons but their placement is annoying. When using the phone one handed, if I reach across with my thumb, the base of my thumb/hand can encroach onto the bottom section of the phone and I can accidentally press the back button. I kind of wish that space was free to allow holding the phone, I sometimes press back or settings when turning to landscape too, although less than I used to. Personally now I'm getting used to android I understand the idea of on sceen keys and I actually long for them a little, so much so that I'm considering a swap to the Nexus 4. Or maybe a custom rom for the S3 that allows it

Literally one of the things I loved from my nexus was on screen keys. Oh well. I guess this one button will do. I had my droid x for 2 years and never had ANY issues with all 4 hardware keys :)
