Any off-line Maps ?

I can imagine emergencies where a wireless connection is not possible but
i would need access to a map to locate streets, nearby cities, towns, etc .

Anything like that available ? For example, is Google Earth downloadable ?

Thanks

Google Earth is available but only for Android OS 2.1

I have a Samsung Behold II that runs Android 1.5. Even rooting it will not help in terms of Google Earth.

Any other apps or ideas ?

Mapdroyd is a free mapping program for the entire world. You pre dl the maps when you have connection and then no data is required aftewards. That being said its strictly maps/position locator. It'll show your position via GPS but it does NOT give directions or display POIs or routes.

Andnav2 is also a free program where the maps can be preloaded that does have routes/turn by turn directions however the routes are mainly limited to europe and small parts of the US.

Another vote for MapDroyd. It's basically a digital map you carry with your Android phone. It's based on the OpenStreetMaps, which can be fairly detailed for populated areas. You can download states, provinces, or countries, all over the world. Here's a list of maps: Available offline Maps | MapDroyd

Awesome. I have to say thanks before I've had an opportunity to download and play
with them - my connection is down - but its thrilling to know there are alternatives.

Cheers.

PS - I can't open the link to the other map thread . ..

Also, personally, GPS is not critical. I was asking for situations when I do have some
sense of where i am and can find my around with a some assistance from a map.

Thanks again.
