Root Any options?

Hi there,

I'm trying to recover a deleted file from the internal memory on a Verizon Galaxy S5. Ive been searching around for all possible options, but it looks like it'll be damn near impossible, short of somehow hacking the NAND chip itself. before i give up on it, I wanted to check with people here to see if there's anything i'm missing.

So far, these are the options i've looked into and why they can't be done.
  • connect the phone to a pc and run recuva: why in the world did google decide removing mass storage was a good thing?
  • apps from the play store: require root
  • adb backup of the phone: won't contain a deleted file
  • root, run recuva, aps, or mass storage: blocked by BOG5
  • dd dump: needs root
  • Custom recovery, NANDROID dump, scan that: again, BOG5. i'm getting this friend away from verizon asap
Are there any other options for getting a deleted file back? the phone's storage is fairly empty, so it's likely the file will still be recoverable. is there a new root for this in the works? should i maintain my distance from verizon, or give into their overwhelming power?

Thanks y'all!
