Anyone do running? What distance do you prefer? Do you enter races?

I will only run for my life.
It looks like fun and all but the last time I ran was playing Red Rover in grade school.

That US Air Force stuff was more like jogging and that was back in the late 70's for me.

I might have ran a few yards for a bus since then.

What do you mean by "runner" ?

I mean anyone who runs for the purposes of general fitness, or with goals, competes in races, or just because they enjoy it.
Or some combination of the above.

Just interested in any discussion on such things as training techniques, motivations, or any thoughts on the subject.

I do jogging regularly, every day in summer time and every other day in winter time, it's either 30 minutes or 400m x 15 times, whichever comes first.

That's great. What sort of pace do you aim for?

I started doing it about 4 years ago, having not done very much exercise in my life previously. As my job involves sitting at a desk all day, I thought it would be a good way of improving my general fitness, and offset the cakes I eat. I do find running/jogging quite boring, but I try to motivate myself by setting goals. Some of these are quite ambitious, for example I dream of running 5km in under 20 minutes, but I fear that one is out of my reach.
I did a half marathon last year, and put in a lot of miles to train for that, but I don't think I'll repeat it, and I'm now sticking to shorter distances.

I'm glad I'm getting chubby again.
But I'd still like to tone up. How many times would I have to run around a US football field to do a kilometer?

With a perimeter of 320m, that's 3 and a bit times around the field.

Well depending on how much physical activity you get in your job, it might. Some people are on their feet moving around all day. But if you're normally inactive, then I think you might need to think about increasing the frequency.
My current routine is to run every other day. On my non-running days, I go for a brisk walk. So I'm getting some form of exercise every day. The current recommendation seems to be 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise per week.
But then doing a little, is still better than doing nothing.
