Any serous iPhone 4 rivals available to the UK?

Hello!!

I'm a bit of a noob to Android, so I hope my questions won't seem too unenlightened ;-)

I'm looking to upgrade from my iPhone 3G, but having become sick and tired of Apple's 'locked down, let's make everything look exactly the same' approach, I'd like to move to something a bit more interesting and customisable.

Having done some research, it seems as though the main contenders (Motorola Droid X, HTC Evo) probably won't make it to the UK (please correct me if I'm wrong), and so I was wondering whether there were any alternatives that could match the new iPhone spec?

BTW: I really don't mind about front-facing cameras and video chat functionality; seems kind of useless for day-to-day activities

Any help would be appreciated :-)

Samsung Galaxy S is maybe an option.
HTC Desire isn't far off, though maybe slightly behind the iPhone 4 in some aspects.

Thanks, Reines!!

The 'Samsung Galaxy S' seems like a very close contender. As I mentioned, I'm not massively interested in Video chat, etc, so its lack of support for this really wouldn't be an issue.

It fairs very well in this comparison (Samsung Galaxy S vs iPhone 4 - Comparisons - Know Your Mobile) as well, assuming that there aren't any biases of course ;-)

Definitely going to check that one out! Thanks a lot for your help :)

i think you can get the htc desire. it does not have a front facing camera, but it's a very nice phone. i might have gotten one if it was available here in the US. i got the nexus one instead, which is pretty much the same phone without the htc sense UI.

go for the HTC desire!

the samsung galaxy S looks a bit similar to iphone in many aspects, first of all most of the people think its a copy of the iphone in looks, secondly the user interface is similar as well, with the four icon dock, and the applications screen scrolling side ways!

I'm getting the Galaxy S Pro and plan on using ADW launcher anyhow. I am using it now on my Moment. (Even though it has stock vanilla android)

Just use a new launcher like Launcher Pro or ADW if you want the Stock Android experience. Its just that simple

and then there are people like me who prefer the Sense UI, i prefer sense only because of the easy to use widgets, they look better then any other widgets available on the market! i wish i cud have these widgets on the vanilla android ui!
