Any US Citizens been to the Philippines recently?

So I was wanting to travel to the PI with my girl this winter. Unfortunately the US State department has a "Travel Warning" on it. I've asked her family (they are originally from PI) and they say it really isn't that dangerous, but I wanted to ask someone who has actually been there recently.

We would mostly be in Manila.

Thanks for the help!

I was there 6months ago and they had that warning on to i believe, but i only stayed there for a day before flying south.

I'm with xmr405o... that advisory doesn't seem to change much meaning the southern islands have always been a "Americans.. beware" zone.

Staying in Luzon, you should have no problems. Just use common sense. I've been there 4 times in the past decade (usually for 3-4 weeks at a time) and never had a problem. I wouldn't travel outside Luzon though.

If you are visiting any of the extremely dense populated areas such as the Green Hills markets, where you are neck-to-neck with everyone, keep your wallet in your front pocket :) The pickpockets there are top notch.

Have a safe trip.
