Any way to create hangout contact shortcut

As the title says, is there any way to create a hangouts shortcut on your home screen

I have my 2 daughters set up in Hangouts, but they don't have any telephone numbers etc, I just contact them on there tablet via Hangouts when they are on wi-fi

I have created a contact on my S3, and can create that as a shortcut, but, it does not give a link to hangouts. It has text, call etc listed, but no hangouts link

Any ideas?

Hi Albie! I don't get it? You can install the hangouts app or even a widget.

The hangouts app is installed and I am able to use it, what I would like to do is make a contact shortcut on the desktop, which allows me to message that person. I can create standard shortcuts to phone, text message etc ... but, they don't show the option to send message to a hangout conversation.

On your PC/laptop you can isolate a Hangout conversation; leave it open. There is no Google Hangouts widget to make that happen on your mobile device. On the other hand.. where is the win? You can have the Hangouts app in your home screen; two taps (even one is possible) and you can continue your conversation. If you enable notification you'll see incoming messages popping up in the corner, or in the status bar. Directly readable. Hope this helps

I know you can do that, but isn't that the point of being able to make a shortcut and customising our device

What I don't get is that you can for text and phone calls, but you can't with hangouts .... which seems a bit bizarre

I also wish this was possible! I have a lot of hangouts in my conversation list but would like to be able to open special ones quickly from a home screen shortcut without needing to scroll all the way down.

I've made do by creating an SMS shortcut for this contact, which launches in Hangouts, and switching the conversation "type" from SMS to chat when they open. I keep sending messages the wrong way by forgetting the last bit, very annoying.
