it been a while but anyway ...
if you install ASTRO file manager , then you can add shortcut to files/folders at your home screen by : long press an empty slot on the home screen -> shortcut -> ASTRO and then you choose whatever you need .
That doesn't quite work. If you use astro after making the shortcut, or want to have multiple shortcuts to different paths then all the shortcuts you make point to where astro was used last.
I created a shortcut to /sdcard/ on my Captivate so hopefully you can do the same on your phone:
Go to your applications, locate 'MyFiles' and long press to add the icon to your screen.
Open it up to show the file folder system.
If you want to make a specific subfolder as the default home (think of /sdcard/ as root), select the subfolder you want then go to your Settings/Menu icon. Select 'More' then 'Settings'. Select the Home Directory option.
Hope that helps! Not sure if you can rename 'MyFiles' but at least you have a 'shortcut' to a folder you want.
Get "Linda Manager" from the marketplace, there is a fully-functional free version. Use it to browse the SD card and long-press on the folder you want; select the 'shortcut' option and you're done. Unlike Astro this works right for multiple shortcuts pointing to different folders.
