Root Any Way to Have a Startup Sound?

I already added Sonic's ring chime and Mario's power up soundclip to my LG Esteem's notifications. But I just downloaded the PlayStation's startup mp3 and it gave me chills. Is there a way I can add it with the Nexus logo are when it reaches the interface? Thanks.

Note: Ah, this would be a root topic, wouldn't it. Sorry new here but thanks in advanced for the answers.

Welcome to the forums ChrisToPhemon!
I moved this over to the Root forum, don't worry about it.
Yep, I'm not very skilled at creating a Boot Animation (actually I have no idea), but swapping it out is an easy process with Root Explorer.

Let me guess-to use this app, I would have to root my Nexus 7 first, right? In other words, use the Nexus Root Toolkit to backup, and restore my data before I can make this startup change?

I'm very new to this rooting thing. Never tried it.

Ah okay. Yep, use the root toolkit. There are some great videos in the stickies that will walk you through the process.
Root Explorer (as its name implies) does give you root access to change or swap out system files (which the boot animation is one of).

Thanks. I may just look into rooting it next weekend. I've done some modding on things like mp3 players and games in the past but this looks to be on another level. My Androids are my babies and I don't want to break them because of a wrong move.

I see no one has touched on this startup sound subject yet. I feel if I see someone who's done it, I'll find the motivation to root and make my devices better. But until then, I'll do my research. I love this site!

Good luck! One thing to keep in mind, when unlocking your bootloader and rooting, you will wipe the entire device. That means all media, photos etc will be deleted. You can certainly back everything up to your PC, but it's just that it's "better" to do it sooner after purchase rather than later. It's a very simple process and took me about 10min.

Alright, I'm about to head over to my college campus and learn to root it today. Then lastly, I'll root my phone next week. I've have more important things on my phone than my Nexus 7. I'll update you all on the results.

Holy crap. I just bricked it... :(

Just kidding! I rooted it! It took much more than 10 minutes though because of driver issues. Now on the boot sound. I have seen the zip file for it but no wav or mp3 is to be found.

Alright, I give up until someone is successful. I unlocked and rooted my device, downloaded what I thought was a good app named Absolute System Root Tools and probably was until this. I got to install a custom boot startup. Awesome. But guess what even the most simple instructions to include a sound file wouldn't work. I did everything this creator said and I just can't hear a sound.

In other words, I put all the pieces of the puzzle together and I STILL can't find Waldo. Well at least I accomplished a few things today. Need some sleep now...

Thanks, dude. But obviously the Nexus 7 is capable of playing sounds but not with the startup or it would have had one when I first turned it on. Kind of sad. I did however hack my PC and put the PlayStation soundclip as it's startup sound. I do know however I can do it with my LG Esteem because of the annoying MPCS one.

But hey, if anyone prevails-let me know!

google avoided anything carrier and startup sounds are carrier i dont see why it would be hard to add one

Download ROM Toolbox pro, or at least look into it. It has the features of about a dozen different ROM apps, which is good in itself. It also has a feature to install custom boot animations as well. I've used it and loaded some new ones on my phone, so I assume it should work the same on the N7. I have no idea about adding your own variant, though.

I'd gladly pay money to get rid of a startup sound. :D

Flashed a new rom with a startup sound a couple weeks ago and had to cover up the speaker with my thumb for two long boots until I disabled it. Anyone who's flashed a rom know how long that first boot can be too. :D

Oh, and this rom had a cat on the boot animation.

one thing I like about boot audio - you can catch a random reboot in the act. have had like 2 in the 3 months I've had a GNex. Had one hot reboot on my Nexus 7 today. Couldn't replicate it and it works fine now.

But other than that, I just like music to go with my animation lol
