Anyone Confirm if this phone is Rootable Or I'm Wasting my Time?

There's so many fake or misleading tutorials, many are for International Versions only.

I want to root mine. Is it possible for this model? And if so, any suggested links to a working tutorial for this model?I have a Verizon, Samsung SM-G950U, running Android 7.0. Im assuming mine is a USA version, idk.

Have a read through this - https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/development/samsung-galaxy-s8-root-snapdragon-t3659305/

The answer is yes, it's rootable, but I think it comes with a few caveats. Charging is limited to 80% and you obviously won't be able to take OTA's any more. If you can live with that, you should be good to go.

Ah, I was reading through the steps, so I have to wipe the device? I can't root it without doing so?
Because the whole reason I wanted to root, was to be able to do a deeper scan to recover some deleted files. The deep recovery apps that work best require root.

Which apps are you looking at? From experience and numerous posts on here, pretty much none of the Android data recovery apps work and are only recommended by paid shills or people who actually work for the data recovery companies.

I also think because the S8 is also encrypted out of the box, that further limits the effectiveness of the recovery apps.

Dr. Fone, DiskDigger, EaseUS, MobiSaver

Dr Fone is 100% bogus.

Disk Digger may work although some of the reviews say it will only recover thumbnails as opposed to proper images/videos.

If Ease Us is a Windows app, it probably won't be able to read the S8's internal memory for the purpose of recovering files. Most other windows apps can't.

Mobisaver is the Android version of EaseUs and has some questionable reviews on the play store.

What is it you want to recover? Have you logged in to your Samaung account on the phone? If yes, that may have backed up what you need to the cloud so that could be worth a look.
