Anyone here migrate from another Motorola device?

Reason I ask is this. When my original Motorola Atrix HD shot craps, when my warranty replacement got here I logged in and it automatically started downloading my apps, auto set my alarms, my settings, my google now ... all I had to do was move some data.

Does Moto X do this too? I want to remove some apps if so. I don't want it set up identical to my Atrix.

Google does the app downloads, WiFi settings, a few other things. Moto has separate software called... (wait for it) "Migrate"

...that will transfer pics/music/sms/phone log/some other settings over a local WiFi when you run the app on both phones.

You will have to point one phone at another with and Moto Migrate will read a QR and connect them over your WiFi network.

It works pretty well but it can hiccup if you don't have enough storage space on the new device.

There is an Android setting you may want to turn off as well. In Settings, Privacy, make sure to UNCHECK the "Back up my data" option. That way, when you get the X (assuming you didn't already give Motomaker your Google info), you should be able to set it up from scratch. Logging into your Google account on the phone will allow you to go to the Play Store and add whatever apps you want (including any paid apps). If you have that option checked, as you experienced before, many setting will auto-xfer over, even if it's something you don't necessarily want on the new phone. If you had any "issues" this also helps avoid them coming over to the new unit. Good luck.

It is really the ideal time to start fresh, clean out the junk, and try some new things.

Nova Launcher Prime is an example of something new I tried and it is in a word ... superb. (The circles widget does not support running in that environment.)

I think one of my favorite reasons of getting a new phone is "starting" fresh. I never install most of the apps I had on the previous phone. And I just move all my photos to my computer. The only nice thing is the contacts back up. I just re-install the app as needed. If I never need it, then its not worth downloading again.

Honestly this is part of why I made Listables. Easy to transfer your app list over bluetooth and install whatever you want.

I just never have time to update it. It still works for new devices though, it's just old-looking.

I actually used it to transfer my list from my Gnex to my Moto X because I changed my main Google account.

I copy then drag 'n drop music and photos that I want, some get left behind on the laptop (I don't need to tote every bad pic I took around). I'm always amazed at how many apps I end up not installing again too.
I love new phone smell and try to not clog it up right away :D

I knew about the migrate app lol, the thread title was not a happy accident. But it will NOT do that automatically. I went through and deleted a bunch of crap (apps) I never use this morning just to make sure they never see the X.

Why this morning? Cause I got an an email this morning ... THEY SENT IT ... it's supposed to arrive today!!

I migrated from a Bionic. I love Moto, but I'm not quite sure yet that it was the right move. The Bionic was/is just such a good phone!
