Anyone prefer China Android over branded ones?

Does anyone here like China Android phones over branded ones? I am thinking of buying Android China phone just because my budget is small these days. They do look like they have specs that are near the branded ones which is good and I saw some that don't even look cheap!

It depends what you are after. There are some that work fine, but it is very much buyer beware. Don't expect software updates, or any support if it goes wrong.

Also read specs carefully. "Quad core cpu" doesn't mean it's comparable to a recent snapdragon chipset, "5 inch screen" doesn't tell you the resolution, contrast, viewing angles, "8 Mpix camera" tells you nothing about quality (which is something you should remember with the brands too! ;)).

It's your call, but I'd say you should shop carefully.

There's also a sticky post about this in this forum that you might want to read.

No, I'm saying that those terms don't tell you much:

- not all cores are the same, and there's more to a chipset than the core. So just counting cores isn't the most important thing.

- screen size is not the same as screen quality

- number of pixels is one of the less important factors in image quality. Lens, sensor quality, image processing software all matter more.

But most people meet these specs through marketing materials, whose only purpose is to sell stuff. Hence stuff like the "megapixel myth" (that more pixels always means better) may be widely known to photographers to be bunk, but it's the story most people have been told for years. Core counting is becoming another of these in phones ("more cores must be better" - except it's a lot more complicated than that).

Don't get me wrong - I know people who've bought no-name Chinese clones which have worked fine. We've also had many people here who've had bad experiences. So it's a matter of shopping carefully, think about what it is you want and what you expect. My point was that if you expect something close to a high end branded phone in specs and performance for 1/5 of the price then you should read carefully to avoid disappointment.

BTW the "selective quoting of specs" isn't unique to Chinese phones. Try buying a budget laptop online from well known brands, and there are many shops that push screen size and "HD" heavily, but you have to dig deep to find the actual resolution is only 1366x768 for a 15.6" screen. Always know what matters to you and check for yourself.

The People's Guide to Android in the People's Republic says... If one is going to buy a Chinese phone, buy one you might have heard of...like ZTE, Huawei, Lenovo, Coolpad, Xiaomi, Hisense.

In addition to what Hadron has already said about selective quoting of specs, there's blatant lying about specs as well, from some online vendors, like they might state a phone has an 8 megapixel camera, when it's only got a 1 megapixel. Or they might state it has 3G/4G/LTE, when in fact it's GSM/EDGE only.

BTW I have a Samsung phone. ...purchased in Hong Kong, and NOT Mainland.
