I'd say APP makes things easy in some ways.Just a click, no more address typing.
And cell phones are getting more and more pre-installed apps.
Now I got 4 shopping apps,6 gaming apps, 4 video apps..... my 16GB storage nearly goes explosion..
But I use the shopping and video apps not as frequently as gaming apps.

I don't have any of the above listed apps on my phone, IMO they are a total waste....

but, then that is why different apps are available, different strokes for different folks.

The apps I use change from day to day, depends on what activities I am doing on that day.

I have 3 browsers, does that count?
Several mapping apps,
Several Geo location type apps,
Lots of technical apps to help in my work.

Textra and Type for SMS and email, and eDialer for the phone.

that's about it.

My most commonly used apps are: calendar, contacts, browser (I have several), SMS, email, rail timetable, music player, file browser, calculator, weather forecast and couple of news apps.

So yeah, none of the categories you mention are anywhere on my list of regularly used apps.

I'd say the major purpose of site-specific apps is not to save you typing but to keep you in little walled gardens and away from the open Web - you have an app that takes you to one place rather than one where you can go anywhere you want (including a rival site). So I install very few such things (the 2 news apps I mentioned, but otherwise I stick to using browsers).

Same goes for me, I hate social media, do not like games. I have YouTube on my device but don't use it.

My browser is probably my most used app.

I game, but generally only when I'm at work and it's not busy.

The Kindle app, Play Books and Deezer get a fair amount of use too.

I agree. Properly coded websites for modern browsers can use tools like html6 to deliver a very mobile-friendly experience without any special app. The app is very little benefit to the user (why not add a bookmark to your homescreen instead), except in some few cases where the content provider doesn't make the same info available directly on the internet.... and except for the a/f app of course ;)

Same here. I have an astronomy, nature, weather and geology reference guides. I also have my camera manuals in PDF format. I get to places where no one has a signal, so apps need to work with no connection. All mine do.

I am modifying my post.....

My "most used app" is a device, a Kindle Paperwhite reader.....

that thing has just about ruined my TV, it don't get turned on much anymore.

if I am not browsing the web with Firefox, I am reading a new book, or out on my Goldwing getting some fresh air at a leisurely pace.

lulz, I have App Permission control on my KitKat phone since my OEM was kind enough to add one. :D

Anyway, what I usually use are Gaming apps since lately Android has been my primary gaming device. There are many console quality games hidden somewhere on the darkest depth of the universe.

We have an Android Games section - you might get your best answer there.

If you let people know what sort of games you do like (apart from Candy Crush) you might get more helpful suggestions.

I love my Paperwhite. For me it's eaten into my video gaming time lol. I was going to install the Kindle app on my phone, but I don't see why it is so big and needs so many permissions.

I don't bother with the Kindle app, just use Moon+ on my phone (though I generally just use the Kindle for ebook reading). The cost of that is that I don't sync progress between devices, but as I never turn my Kindle's WiFi on anyway (it's none of Amazon's business what I'm reading) and sideload 100% of its content that's not really an option for me anyway.

I got tired of my Kindle constantly "locking up" while it was doing something for Kindle, changing the software, off loading old books, etc.... so, I just turned off the WiFi..... think I will just do the side load thing too.
