I use SMSBackup .You need to have a Googlemail account.Works fine for me

I just used SMSBackup 2 days ago - backing up to Gmail. Worked like a charm. You can only backup 200 messages at a time, but when you hit backup again, it just continues with the next 200 msgs.

If you also want a copy on your SD card you can use SpriteBackup. It can backup both text messages and multimedia messages.

I haven't tried to recover any of my backups yet though - but Sprite usually make pretty reliable software.

I purcahsed an app called mybackuppro, its was like 5 something like yr ago, it backs up everything even the notes ok my ak notepad and system settings on the sd card or online account, sms call logs and others also.Love that app.

along with the apps already mentioned there's an app called SMS Backup & Restore which lets you back up texts to your sd Card and restore them after you do a data wipe. works great!
