Anyway to see if NO mobile signal on notification bar

Is there away to tell if you do NOT have a mobile signal from YOUR provider when the screen is unlocked.

I have looked & looked but is there now a way to only show the signal level bars for you own network & not any other network that it seems to pick up.

When screen is on but locked it is fine, Vodafone UK is on top left - I actually have to lock then turn on screen (still locked) to see if I have a connection which is crazy.

I can walk around looking at my phone and not realise that I have no signal.

I have asked many times over perhaps 5 or more years on my many Samsung phones (or any android)
but never had an answer, amazed others are not as equally frustrated, perhaps not in the UK where I live where 20% (or worse) of the land mass is not covered

Currently SGS9+ but on all previous S7 S6 S5 S4

I would prefer just for the notification bars to drop or have a line through but these show any network connection so if next to EE mast but no VF signal still full bars, which again is crazy, handy for emergency services I guess but 99.9% of time don't need to know that.

I would even be happy to have Vodafone UK taking up screen space, better than nothing.

Due to the rubbish UK network I spend quite a lot of time out of range of my provider but at a glance I see the bars & think perhaps I have a signal.

Some phones can show the carrier name in the notification area, like my Huawei. If I don't see "China Unicom", then I know it isn't getting a signal from MY carrier, and it maybe some other network. However AFAIK I don't think Samsung phones have this feature, unless they're using a custom ROM.

Don't you have a system setting for that, @bignose2? Something like [near the bottom]:

If I turn 'show mobile network' on, my carrier is displayed, just like @mikedt's:

I thought this was strictly an Android setting. My phone is a Moto Z² Force Edition running Android 8.0.0, and my carrier is Consumer Cellular (US).
