apk doesn't install (Android 8.1)

I am trying to install an apk file that I copied and pasted from my hard drive. I try to install it by tapping on the apk in file manager. After about a progress bar that lasts a second, I get an error message that says "app not installed". No additional information is given.

The apk is a game that I developed using Stencyl. Assuming the problem isn't Stencyl, what might be keeping the apk from installing and how do I fix it? I checked internal storage; there's plenty. I have the minimium Android version for the game set to 8.0 and my device runs 8.1.

Have you enabled permission for installing unknown apps from your file manager app? It's in the security settings, in 8 it's done per app rather than globally as in past versions (not sure when that changed).
 
When I tap the apk in file manager it asks if I want to install. I assume that's the permission. That's when I get the error message.
 
Have you considered asking someone you know to install the apk to see if they have the same issue? Perhaps even post it here so that someone can try and install it. My phone has android 8.1 so I can give it a try.
 
I found a way to make it run on my device. I looked in settings/general/apps&notifications/App info and found the apk. It says “disabled”. When I tap it, there is an uninstall option (even though the error message says “not installed”) and a force stop option. I tapped uninstall and then went back to file manager, and the apk is still there. Then I tapped it again and it installed.



I posted the apk in case anyone is still willing to try installing it on their device. I would appreciate the feedback. The game is already copyright protected.
