Is the device rooted?

I usually modify the file located at.

/system/etc/apns.conf

and add it in there. of course you'd have to have root access to the device to do so...
hope this helps

I've never heard of 'dun', for when setting up an APN. Is it something specific to your carrier, Boost Mobile, and the particular phone you've got?

it tells the device to allow the apn to use a tether connection for android hotspot.

that's a possibility, but i'd recommend soon as you root a device with any of the kingroot/kingo stuff, use something like SuperSUME or something to replace kingroot. after root. because who wants to openly stream their personal info and data to shanghai china or some junk.
LoL
