When you hand around the phone to your family or friend, have you ever worried that they may see the photos or emails, browser the website with your data network, or the kids should mess up the settings in your phone and download games whatever they want?

Put a lock on important apps so that they can't be opened without the password.

When you install AppLock, it will ask you to set a password first. The second step is set a security email address and a security question. This step can be skipped for you can set them again in the Settings.

AppLock has a very straightforward interface. There is a list of all the apps on your device. Turn on the switch beside them to lock. You can lock SMS, Contacts, Gmail, Facebook, Gallery, Market, Settings and any other app you want to. In Switch Lock, you can also lock WiFi, blue tooth, mobile data and auto sync there.

Turn on/off itself automatically according the time or location

I really appreciate the Location and Time lock to lock/unlock automatically according the time or location. For example, you go out for work at 8:00 am and leave office at 6:00 pm. You can set a time lock to enable the lock at 8:00 and a time lock to disable the lock at 18:00. Then apps will be only locked when you are at work. Your privacy is safe in the office. The time lock can repeat like an alarm by select from Monday to Sunday. Location lock is marked by WiFi hotspot. It’s amazing too.

Hide photos and videos

If you don’t want to lock your gallery, but there are photos you don’t want to be seen, you can hide them in AppLock. There is Photo/Video Vault feature.

Set different profiles

Create different profile to lock different apps, so you can decide which app can be opened when you give the phone to friends, kids or colleagues etc.

More feature

AppLock can be hide from the home screen. Or you can enable the Random keyboard to prevent other people may peep the password. There are also many themes for AppLock. Once you open locked apps, you are asked to input the password. Change different themes and backgrounds to make it more user-friendly.

I understand what it says that it does... On the other hand it does require a lot of permissions and access to sensitive data.

I really wouldn't be comfortable running this app as ironically it could make my device less secure and less private.

Hey dude thanks for your attention.
AppLock need permissions so that it can lock all apps in your phone when you need, like calling, settings, etc. We will never put your data in risk. please don't worry!

Ok. seems I need a good explanation.
1- AppLock is just an app, user data is useless for the developers.
2-AppLock is one of the top download tools app in Google Play Store, I am sure it meets all of the standards of Google. Google won't permit an app that bad for privacy.

Well yes... But you wouldn't be the first app developer to sell user data

Apologies for the comparison, but cheetah mobile could say exactly the same thing to points 1 and 2. They are also a big developer who have been known to use extensive permissions on their app for to collect user data for commercial purposes

And as for privacy I don't think Google cares... If end users agree to giving that away.. (which you do by running the app)

Please don't take this the wrong way, but the way your app is written means that it requires a lot of permissions to sensitive stuff..


Amongst (a lot of others) it requires

Re routing outgoing calls
Access to sensitive logs
Ability to create or remove shortcuts
Toggle network access.

This combined with full network access means that anyone installing this app gives you the ability do whatever you like with the device.. And grab anything you want remotely without the user even being aware.

Now I'm not suggesting that you do this routinely. However I don't know that you aren't. In many parts of the world you would be forced to do this (even if you didn't want to) If requested by local law enforcement.

Now I understand that you may have requested all of these features purely to offer (requested) features to users. BUT by combining them all into a single app, you have created a security problem for your users.

Perhaps a review of the app permissions are required. Maybe you need to break it into separate apps, maybe there are some features that are just too dangerous to offer.

Just because an app needs a lot of permissions to perform a certain feature doesn't mean it's acceptable to give it those. Sometimes not implementing the feature is better if it means not compromising the security of the application and the device.

Everyone can make a choice to install this or not. Personally I think it would be unsafe to install this in its current state (although I can see that it might be very useful).

Btw... The privacy policy is still missing from Google Play, and I couldn't find it on your website either....
