App or technique to search in text file

I have an N1 (v 2.2-1).

I am looking for an app or technique that will let me search
the contents of a text file on the SDCard text file.

I can do something like this using the QuickOffice viewer on SugarSync
text files, but the font is vanishingly small.

The best would be a "grep -i" function, but I am not willing to root
the phone (which I like too much to risk making it a brick).
