App to launch a bunch of other apps?

Okay, so, since I haven't found a solution to my problem of recent apps (sort of) closing, I thought I'd try a different approach.

Does anyone know of an app, or a built-in feature, that lets you launch a bunch of apps at once? On straight Linux, I could do this in a number of ways. Since Android is a Linux, it should be easily doable.

I have a brand-new Moto Z² Force Edition, running Oreo, which I do not plan to root in the immediate future.

I'm picturing something like a bunch of app shortcuts in a folder...or something...and when it's selected, it launches all the apps in the folder...or something. Ideas?

It could technically be done. After all, that's what a custom launcher is for, to start apps. I don't know of one that includes a multi-app launch feature like you're asking. But yeah, it could be achieved.

And when I try searching Play for 'app launcher' I end up with zillions of launchers--like the one I use, ADW Launcher EX, Nova, etc.

I've scoured ADW's features, but have come up empty.

A quick search turned-up this. It's not been updated since 2014 though, so no idea how well it works these days.

Followup: the Multi App Starter works great, doing exactly what I wanted. That's the good news. The bad news is that no sooner does it open the group of apps, than Android moves most of them off to the limbo I mentioned in my first post about this problem. They're not closed, but they're not in recents, either.

What is this annoying 'feature' and how on earth do I turn it off?! Ugh!
