App to Play Music On car

I recently switched from the iPhone 3GS to the HTC Inspire and am loving the Inspire except for one thing, the music player.

Pretty much the only time I used my phone to listen to music is on the car which has a built in USB adapter and software but the problem is;

  • On the iPhone I would be able to plug in the device and the car interface controls would let me choose from artists, albums, playlists, etc.
  • On the Android, when I plug in, it just lists all the songs I have under "Music". If I create sub-folders, then it'll list the folders but there is no menu control for artists, albums, playlists, etc.
  • I've figured that this might be that the car recognizes the iPhone or maybe how the folders are structured. But then again, the Android needs to mount the SD card to the USB to even load it on the player.

Would anyone know a solution to be able to possibly have the car see the Android as an iPhone, or any other solution? I really don't want to only be able to scroll through a million songs listed in DATE order, not even alphabetical order.

I have a 2011 Honda Accord EX-L if anyone else drives and has any suggestions.

Thanks!

No. The deck sees the iphone and controls it because that's what it was built to do. I cannot control the android phone, because all it sees it as is a drive with music on it.

Ah so I'm guessing you drive a Honda?

How do you organize your music then? Anyway to create a sort of playlist without having duplicates or everything? Kinda sucks when you have lots of songs and you have to scroll through a million of them.

Maybe we can trick the computer to believe it's an iPhone :P

No, but I know for a fact, there are no radios that have "android controls". Only ones that have iphone controls, and that isnt compatible with android.

Its organized by id3 tag like it should be. I just put all my music in the Music folder on my card. Then I use the music app to find music and make playlists. I am using the 3.5mm output to my head unit.

What do you mean duplicates?

Kinda sucks when you have lots of songs and you have to scroll through a million of them.

Well the solution is dont put a million songs on your phone, or use a 3.5mm cable and use the music app on the phone.

No.

Ah I see, your using a 3.5mm connector, I have that and a USB cable built into the dash, are there any differences in how the music comes out or no?

Thanks!

I don't know if Honda radios and Mitsubishi radios work the same, but I went out and got me an 8GB usb flash drive and copied my music library to it using the same folder structure in iTunes (music\artist\album\tracks). Then I put playlists together in iTunes and exported them as playlist name.m3u to the USB drive into a folder called "playlists".

I keep the flashdrive in the USB socket in my car so i always have my library available, which is selected by artist, album or playlist using voice commands. I don't even have to take my phone out of my pocket. It will also stream audio via bluetooth, but Mitsubishi's system accepts music player commands only for USB devices.

I've only messed around with the Fit and the Civic si since those are the only two Honda's we've tested that come with USB music inputs. These Hondas seem to only handle two levels of folder structure, so to keep things neat on your SD card you'll want something like /Music/Artist/music.mp3 or /Artist/Album/music.mp3.

Depending on how you have it sorting it it'll either compile the tracklist based on when you put it on the SD card (oldest to newest, and this is the default sorting method if I recall correctly) or if you sort by track it'll use the track number in the id3 tag, then alphabetically from the id3 tag, then by date added.

It also seems to have a folder limitation where after the first 90 something folders it just stops listing them.

I suggest taking the time to edit the tags with something like this.

Hopefully that helps a bit. If not, I can try asking around. Half the people I know work at R&D there, though I doubt any of them had anything to do with the way the stereo works.

Shouldnt be. Just 3.5 is analog and the usb connection is digital.
