App Update Notification

Kesey

Lurker
Just got a new Android phone, my second after a brief stint with the G1 a year or so ago..

Today I noticed that I received notifications that I have apps with updates available. When I click on the notification it takes me to my downloads in the Marketplace, but it doesn't show me which app has an update. They all just say Installed.

Is there no way to tell what application needs updating??

Is 'My Downloads' different than 'Downloads'?

I can get to 'Downloads' in the Marketplace and like I said, all of the Apps I've dowloaded just say Installed and do not have any indication that an update is available.

Thanks.

As far as I know, they are one of the same. What phone are you using and what version of Android are you using?

This is a stupid idea I know, but seeing as this just seems to be a weird problem I figure why not try it. Look at what version of each app you have and then go to the page for that app on the Marketplace and see what is the most recent version it has available. Hopefully this will work but I honestly don't know. Let me know if it does! (And yeah, I'm hoping you'll only have to do this until it gets fixed as it's definitely not a long term solution.)

Yea, I'll have to go through app by app to see if any of them have updates. I'm using the Nexus one...so Android 2.1.

Thanks!

In my experience, if the app says Installed, then there is no update available. If it says Update available, then I can upgrade/update the program.

If you see that notification it usually does mean an update for an installed app has an update available. The apps that have an update available have the words "Update available" to right of the app in my downloads on the market.

The reason it may not shown an update is available when you clicked on it could be
1) The update was withdrawn the same time you went to check
2) you updated the app earlier but the notification popped up
3) possibly a bug on the Nexus one's market but this is the first I've heard so probably not .

Don't worry, the next time it does say update available their most likely will be :)

Thanks for all the replies.

I'm still getting occasional Update Available notifications in the tray and then when I click on then and am taken to the Market, none of my downloaded items actually have updates.

Kind of annoying, but I can deal with it for now.
