App updates requiring extra permissions

This morning when I turned my phone on I got a notification informing me that 3 apps had updates available. I clicked the update all button and it informed me that one of the apps had changes to the permissions required and then proceeded to update the other 2 apps.

The app in question is Angry Birds. I had a look at my current installation and the only permissions it requests access to are:

Network communications
Full Internet access

The update (which I haven't accepted yet) requests:

Network communications
Full Internet access

Phone calls
Read phone state and identity

Storage
Modify/delete SD card contents

Your location
Coarse (network-based) location

Is it normal for a game to need access to so much? I understand the network communication access is required for the adverts but phone calls?

Am I just worrying over nothing? (probably!)

From what I've read the common needs for those would probably be:

Network communications - Ads
Phone Calls - Pausing the game on incoming call
Storage - Saving game stats or unlockable/downloadable extras to SD card
Your location - Serving you ads for local businesses
