App vs mobile site in data use

I'm pretty sure it would be app/site specific.

If the site is configured for proper viewing on a mobile device, I imagine it would use less data than a site that wasn't.
 
Sometimes apps might be doing things and consuming data when in background, things like Facebook. Using the FB mobile site in a browser, that would only consume data for the browser session you're using, that's it. Close the browser, no more data.
 
OK... As a example ... Google now has weather cards how much data would that use compared to AccuWeather? According to my AccuWeather 13.95 data and 12.95 cache...
