App/widget/tip to quick dial certain people?

Wundt

Lurker
I have had my Android phone for over a week now, so far I like it.

However, 90% of my calls are to perhaps 3 or 4 people, yet, to call them I have to go through the same process as I would when I call anyone else on my contact list: Open Contacts, scroll to them in the list (100+ numbers), select them, select which number to use.

What I really want is a way to put a shortcut to these contacts on my desktop so I can call them with just one or two presses. I am fine with using the longer process to call that remaining 10% of people I call.

I looked through the interface and didn't see a way to shortcut to a listing in Contacts. And, I didn't see anything in the Market that does what I want. I haven't tried the voice dialing options yet, but would prefer a button.

Any suggestions?

go to the home screen you want the link on>> click the menu button>> click add>> click shortcut>> click direct dial>> click the person you want the direct dial shortcut for.

personally i use dialer one, its in the android market place, it allows you to use the dial pad to spell a persons name to quick dial. another suggestion would be to make the people you call regularly favorites then dial from your favorites menu of your dialer.

:)

Long press on the screen and when the box pops up go to direct dial and then find the contact you want and it drops the contact on to your desktop for you or there is a nice app called ABC dialler lite that I use the free version lets you have a widget on the DT with 6 contacts and it has a nice interface to show how many missed calls you have and how many texts you have just hit the phone or text icon on the widget to see the text/open text app or open the dialler/call log app.

Cool, thanks. I couldn't believe there wasn't a function to do that, and I now like the phone even more now I know it was available as a base option.

Why don't you just do the voice dailing? On my iPhone, I can just hold the home button, then voice command comes up, and I just say "Call Mom", and it calls my mom. Way easier than even a shortcut button would be, don't even need to look at the screen for this.

LMAO so your saying it is easier to hold a button down and then speak into the phone than it is to just tap a button the screen?

Me thinks the apple brain wash is strong with you :)

EDIT: I have a very deep voice and I've yet to use any voice app that can understand what I say, even my mates iphone can't guess what I'm saying lol.
