Hello everyone,
When I saw Google's new AppInventor tool, a visual programming tool for building real Android applications, I went nuts and decided to see how good of an Android application I could create with it giving myself only one day to do it. I came up with AppEliza, an ELIZA style chat-bot. This web page gives some more details and a link to the APK file for download. It's free:
AppEliza
You will need the Eyes-Free Text To Speech package. It's a free download off the Android Marketplace if it's not already on your phone. Here's what AppEliza does:
This app isn't a big AI breakthrough or anything. It uses simple pattern matching to detect phrases about family or friends. It's simply meant for fun and to show your non-Android phone owning friends something cool that your phone can do. Here's a link to some live (and silly) sessions of mine that I auto-posted to Twitter with AppEliza:
App Eliza (appeliza) on Twitter
Note, the Twitter support was added the next day and it took me a little over an hour. But the rest of the app was done completely in one day on Tuesday this week.
Have fun! AppInventor is incredible!
