I noticed the history of this story has already been posted here, however it appears we cannot add on to those threads or post in that area. At least I can't.

Any thoughts on what could happen if either Google or Apple comes out on top of this?

If Apple wants the patents, they'll take them and there's nothing Google will be able to do about it. Apple simply has to much cash it can play with.
