Application Updates

I had thought that appbrain is more or less of a mirror of market.

How come sometimes I got into appbrain and sync and it shows me no updates, but they I go into the market and it does show updates for some apps?

Just a delay in moving the info over....

I have seen it as quick as 30 minutes to 2 hours...

But it is pretty fast...

Ok. That's what i figured.

How do you update an app that was acquired from off-market? Is it just a matter of getting the newest version, and 'installing' it over the existing app? What happens to the saved information when this happens?
